Happy Friday everyone,
Thank you for subscribing to Wu Fei’s Music Daily. This is the #303 episode — Spring vertigo.
This composition was created and recorded yesterday on multitrack piano and one guzheng, performed by me. It is inspired by the vivid memory of a trip that I made exactly ten years ago, on April 9th, 2011.
My husband and I drove from Beijing to Xuankongsi 悬空寺, The Hanging Temple in Shanxi province, China. This temple is built into a cliff (75 m or 246 ft above the ground) near Mount Heng. Built more than 1,500 years ago, this temple is notable not only for its location on a sheer precipice but also because it is one of the few existing temples with the combination of three Chinese traditional religions: Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Being on top of the temple was breath taking. I tried not to look down from where I was in the photo below. The wooden platform was so small and the small fence below my legs was all the protection there was. This trip blew my mind about what humans are capable to do. Yes, we are capable to do more that we think we can.
On another note, I’d like to share an exciting news that my duo collaborative album Wu Fei & Abigail Washburn (released on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings) has been nominated in the Fusion category of the Songlines Music Awards 2021 by UK's Songlines Magazine. I feel honored to be among all the amazing artists around the world for this prestigious award.
Wish you all a restful weekend!
