Good morning, afternoon, and evening,
Last night, I recorded this 2-track guzheng piece quite late. It’s been a stressful few days helping my parents renew their passports – dealing with family administration can be very challenging. When I took my father grocery shopping at our local international market earlier in the day, the old owner, Mr. Kim from Korea, greeted him as usual with a sweet smile. This time, he said, “Happy Father’s Day” to my father. Suddenly, I realized it was Father’s Day. A sense of guilt hit me because I’d just been complaining to my father about how difficult I’d found the household administrative tasks, and I’d completely forgotten the holiday. My father didn’t mind – he’s a typical old Chinese man who isn’t very verbal about feelings. In fact, he’s often critical of almost everything I do, including my music (can you believe that? Haha!). Yet, he’s cooked three meals a day for my mom and me since they got married – every day until I left for college. He still cooks three meals a day for her.
Looking at this photo of my husband and our daughter back in 2013 in New Zealand (my husband’s parents were with us on the beach too), I feel deeply grateful for all the fathers in my life. They are strong yet fragile; stubborn yet sensitive; hardworking but with their own ways of enjoying life. Most importantly: they all love me, and I love them all.
