Song from The Peony Pavilion

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone,

Thank you for subscribing Wu Fei’s Music Daily! This is the 149th episode - Song from The Peony Pavilion.

Today is the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, aka the Moon Festival. I’d like to share this track with everyone who subscribes my newsletter. The moon is the brightest and the fullest of the whole year. The full moon symbolizes the completeness and reunion of families.

The song in the recording is a famous piece from the Kunqu opera 昆曲 - The Peony Pavilion 《牡丹亭》. This opera was first performed in 1598 at the Pavilion of Prince Teng. You can read more about it here .

Hope you all are enjoying a beautiful evening!
