This improvisation on guzheng and my vocal was recorded on Dec. 31, 2020 in my home in Nashville, Tennessee. Many parts of the world were already entering 2021 when I sat down in front of my instruments. It was an exciting but quiet moment. I really wanted to hug all the friends and family members from whom I had been separated in 2020. Hope this piece can reach out to you as my hug!
Speaking of 2020, I am speechless. I was having a conversation with my husband and our children about the pros (no need to mention the cons) that the pandemic had brought to our family. We feel feel grateful to have spent all of this time with each other, getting to know each other lot better, especially my children. Being a homeschooler full time has been a life changer for me. Meanwhile, I have gained quite a few skills from working at home — learning how to do home audio/video recording and engineering, working out at home to stay fit and healthy while looking after my parents etc. All of these events seemed so foreign to me only from a year ago. Sometimes, having pressure can help to achieve goals unexpectedly efficiently.
I sincerely hope that 2021 is the beginning of the end of the pandemic, and we get to see each other in real life again. Therefore, I’m excited for the new year to start while remaining patient for our world to gradually heal altogether. It may still take a while before normality resumes. Therefore, I have made a slight schedule adjustment to my post beginning from this episode — I’ll be sending out a new piece from Monday through Friday and have the weekend off so I can recharge. My paid subscribers will receive all five posts. Free subscribers will receive Monday and Friday posts.
