Great blue

Happy Friday everyone,

Thank you for subscribing to Wu Fei’s Music Daily. This is the 220th episode — Great blue.

This improvisation on solo guzheng was recorded yesterday inspired by a great blue heron (photo below) that I share a forest with.

It made me think of a poem by Ms. Li Qingzhao 李清照 (1084 -1155) from the Song Dynasty.

There is an English translation I found here by Xu Zhongjie 徐忠杰 .

Rumengling

I often recall the brookside pavilion,
Where I was detained against the waning day.
I was so drunk that I couldn't know my way home.
But I had all the fun. Indeed, I was gay.

All the pleasure spent, I managed to return.
I plunged deep among water-lilies my sculls.
I struggled and struggled out of the tangle.
I thus alarmed a beach of herons and gulls.

The poem in Chinese:

《如梦令·常记溪亭日暮》

宋朝:李清照

常记溪亭日暮,沉浸不知归路。

兴尽晚回舟,误入藕花深处。

争渡,争渡,惊起一滩鸥鹭。
