Happy Friday everyone,
Thank you for subscribing to Wu Fei’s Music Daily. This is the 243rd episode — Four hundred million years.
This solo improvisation on voice and guzheng was recorded yesterday. In the morning, I had a hike with my family in the forest. My daughter spotted this rock that was on the trail. We were all excited to see the fossil shell in the rock. Hope this piece will bring you a moment of excitement!
I would also like to share another exciting news: alongside with Abigail Washburn, our duo record Wu Fei and Abigail Washburn (Smithsonian Folkways Recordings) has been nominated for the Album of The Year on the 2021 International Folk Music Awards by by Folk Alliance International.
My idols from youth Kronos Quartet is nominated in the same category. The first time I heard them was on a bootleg record, playing Jimi Hendrix. Bootleg records were the only kind people had access to and could afford to buy in China back then. I was studying composition in the High School of China Conservatory of Music, and had just started writing my first string quartet. The album blew my mind, therefore changed my perspective on contemporary music. Seeing our record on the same list with my idols is a huge deal.
Thank you all again for your support! Can’t wait to create the next piece. Wish you all a good weekend!
