Hi everyone,
Happy holidays to you all! By the time you receive this newsletter, I will be on my way to New Zealand to be with family members in the southern hemisphere. It has been another wonderful year for me sharing my daily thoughts and music with you. Thank you for being here with me, and I hope my music has brought joy to your life.
I made this medley recording yesterday. All the folk melodies are from my childhood, beginning with me singing a song from the repertoire of Beijing Chaqur 北京岔曲儿, a form of traditional narrative singing from China’s capital. The song is called Ignorance is bliss 憨人多快乐. Later in the piece, I play my original piece Little Tree that I composed in Beijing about thirteen years ago. And then a lullaby jumped back in my memory. It must be the holiday season that makes me remember all these old tunes.
I’d also like to tell you about about my upcoming concerts in Canada (flyer below). It will be my debut in Canada as part of the Winnipeg New Music Festival. It will be the Canada premiere of Hello Gold Mountain with the Winnipeg Symphony. I am really excited! If you are in Winnipeg or have friends and family there, I’d love to see you at my concerts,
