#870 — A ticking clock in the prairie fire 野火烧不尽

Dear all,

This multi-track composition was created and recorded yesterday on the valiha and guzheng. Half of the tracks were valiha while the other half were guzheng, both performed by me. The valiha is a tube zither from Madagascar. The guzheng 古筝 is a 21-string either from China, which is my main instrument that I’ve been playing since I was five. The valiha in the recording belongs to my friends who are historians of Madagascar. They have generously let me use their beautiful valiha to explore new sounds in my compositions. I am still learning how to play it. It has opened up a lot of my perspectives in my daily creative life. During this difficult time for many many people including my family members and friends around the world, I hope this piece brings you a moment of peace.

I haven’t found the name of this flower. It has been blossoming throughout the summer and fall. It is incredibly strong. (Update on 10/13: The flower is a Zinnia flower. Thanks to dear subscriber Chris sharing her knowledge!)
