This piece was created and recorded on multitrack guzheng to welcome the lunar new year of the rabbit, which starts on January 22 this year. Chinese Astrology also incorporates the five elements: Water, Metal, Wood, Earth, and Fire. The zodiac moves through a different element each year. 2023 will be the Year of the Water Rabbit. Because the Yin Water element is associated with the color black, some people call this the “Year of the Black Rabbit.”

After months of orchestrating + revising + perfecting every single bar of every single part for every single instrument, the full symphony Hello Gold Mountain premiere is going to take place at Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University at 7:30pm on Saturday, Feb. 11th.

I can't express how much gratitude towards everyone who has encouraged me and helped me to make my biggest dream come true - my managers at Judson Management and Mark Wilson & Conductor Paul Salerni of Lehigh University, and oudist Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz.
I am excited and nervous about performing with 80 + instrumentalists + singers + poet narrator. One of the total seven movements is a mixture of a group improvisation + structured element overlapping with each other done by the entire orchestra. It will be a mind-blowing experience for me to have music done this way in such a scale! See y'all at the premiere!
