#631 — A waterfall of trees 树影瀑布

This multitrack guzheng piece was created and recorded yesterday. I was driving my children to their school Sunday picnic yesterday, and I heard my 7-year old son say “…The waterfall of trees I see in the reflection…” I thought it was an interesting sentence, and decided to write a piece with that impression.

Meanwhile, I continue orchestrating my symphony score for Hello Gold Mountain. Yesterday, I worked on a transitional movement that had all the woodwind and brass instruments. If you have not seen a full orchestral score, the woodwind and brass sections are always on the top of the staff.

I have been writing orchestral scores since I was a high school student at the China Conservatory of Music. The “inner image” has been developed in my head over the years, in which I hear all the instruments in my head as one whole sound (woodwind, brass, piano, harp, percussion, and strings etc..) And then, I make decisions or choices on what combinations I like the best out of the countless possibilities.

Another exciting news I’d like to share is that I have been invited by The Recording Academy GRAMMYS to be a voting member for its class of 2022. I’m honored to be part of this amazing community of talented and hardworking musicians and music professionals! And a big thank you for my Substack supporters!

Wish you all a good beginning of the week!

During my morning hike on the hills of Bellevue, TN, I saw this mushroom next to the path. It looks like a symphony score me to.
