#609 — The cow is out 走神牛

I created this piece a few hours ago inspired by a wooden cow statue from Mission Bay in Auckland. It belongs to a restaurant. I pass by this restaurant everyday when I walk to the beach. If the wooden cow is out on the sidewalk, then I know the restaurant is open.

I used the guzheng as a percussion instrument by hitting the strings like a drum on both sides of the bridges. And then I created the vocal tracks by singing into the hole in the back of the guzheng (see photo below).

I will be traveling to the North Island this weekend, and won’t have internet again. I’ll be back next Tuesday. Thank you for your understanding and support. Hope this piece brings you a joyful moment into your weekend!

Since we arrived in Auckland in June, I’ve been recording in the bedroom. My half-sized guzheng is small and doesn’t have a stand. I’ve been playing it on the floor. The carpet is good for soundproof.
