#593 — Marsh bluet 蟌蟌

This solo guzheng improvisation was recorded yesterday. I was inspired by this pair of damselflies (photo below) I saw by the pond. This type damselfly is called the marsh bluet. Their colors changed from sparkly to soft depending the angles where I looked at them from above the water or under the sunlight. They flew like this in the air too. They are similar to dragonflies. Most species fold the wings along the body when at rest, unlike dragonflies which hold the wings flat and away from the body. An ancient group, damselflies have existed since at least the Lower Permian, and are found on every continent except Antarctica. A mating pair form a shape known as a "heart" or "wheel". I saw the pair in the photo forming a heart for a moment. It was fascinating to watch the peaceful pair. Hope this song brings you a moment of peace.
