Good afternoon, evening, and morning,
This 3-track guzheng composition was created today. I was inspired by a bright pink flower that I saw in the town of Dötlingen, Germany a month ago when I was on tour with my new band-semble House of Wu Fei. We had a day off in Germany. Dötlingen was a lovely town full of beautiful gardens with flowers. I walked by a hot pink blossom (photo). However, I didn’t find out the name of it until today. It is called President Roosevelt. Isn’t that interesting? I had to find out why:
After Theadore Roosevelt’s presidency, he embarked a widely publicized European tour. On May 12, 1910, he gave a famous speech in Berlin titled "The World Movement" advocating for international cooperation. His visit generated a great deal of public enthusiasm across Germany. It's highly probable that a German nursery or horticulturalist around this time named a new or distinctive dahlia (or other showy flower) variety after him to capitalize on his immense popularity and commemorate his visit. Finding it in Götlingen suggests this local name persisted as a nostalgic tribute, turning the flower into a unique "living souvenir" of TR's historic trip. What an amazing symbol this flower carries about history, diplomacy, and local pride!
