How have you all been? Hope you all have had a fun and restful summer or winter break!
I just got back home to Nashville from a tour in Colombia. It was my first visit to the South American continent ever. Before I went, I had zero idea what to expect. All I really knew about Colombia were two famous Colombian soccer stars from the 1990s from watching the World Cup on Chinese television.
Everything I experienced in Colombia over-exceeded my expectations. I fell in love with the Colombian culture — the food and the people all were beautiful, and the country’s history is much richer than I had realized.
I played concerts in Valledupar, Riohacha, Bogota, and Manizales. The concert in Riohacha was free; the others were all sold out at least a week in advance. I received standing ovations at each concert. It was overwhelmingly touching to be welcomed by such a way. One truly amazing thing I learned that the Banco de la Repulica of Colombia that sponsored the entire national music concert season for the country including mine is one of the biggest cultural event agencies in Colombia. This is my first time ever knowing that a national bank puts its mission into bringing and producing arts to and for its people from the capital to remote towns of the Caribbean coast. So much respect to del Banco de la República!
