Hi everyone,
This is the 9th episode of Wu Fei’s Music Daily. I recorded it yesterday on Mother’s Day, dedicating to my mother who is a Peking Opera fan. The singing in the piece is from a famous Peking Opera, The Drunken Beauty 贵妃醉酒.
The Drunken Beauty is one of the songs made famous by Mr. Mei Lanfang 梅兰芳, the founder of the Mei Style of Peking Opera performance.
The story is about Yang Yuhuan, a rare beauty and the Emperor’s favorite concubine. One day, she had appointment at the Flower Pavilion with him, but he did not show up. As she waited for him, starting to realize that he would not show up, she drinks her sorrows away.
The lyrics are below, in my hand.
