Thank you for subscribing to Wu Fei’s Music Daily. This is the 70th episode —Coconut Étude.
It was recorded yesterday and inspired by Balinese gamelan music. I played in three different Balinese gamelan ensembles for about six years from Mills College in California (studied from Pak Windha), to Boulder/Colorado Springs/Laramie, WY (from Pak Made), and last GAMELAN DHARMA SWARA in NYC (from Pak Saptanyana.)
Studying gamelan music has had huge impact on opening up the spectrum of my knowledges of musical vocabularies and perspectives of performing art, as well as new cultural experiences. I’ve made a lot of good friends from playing the three gamelan ensembles. I hope to visit Bali in the future to learn more.
