Hi everyone,
This multi-track guzheng piece was composed and recorded yesterday, the Qingming Festival 清明节.
The Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day and Ancestors' Day, is a traditional Chinese festival observed by ethnic Chinese in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. A celebration of spring, it falls on the first day of the fifth solar term of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. This makes it the 15th day after the Spring Equinox, either 4, 5 or 6 April in a given year. During Qingming, Chinese families visit the tombs of their ancestors to clean the gravesites and make ritual offerings to their ancestors. Offerings would typically include traditional food dishes and the burning of joss sticks, joss paper, incense and paper money.
Meanwhile, the first wild sweet azalea has started to blossom on the hills of west Nashville. They are native to North America. The sweet azalea has white blooms, dark green foliage and is very fragrant (photo below). As I was admiring their beauty, I suddenly remembered that it was Qingming Festival. I want to send my wishes to you, wish you peace and comfort during this time of remembrance.
Starting from this weekend, I will traveling to Chicago for my solo recital residency on April 7-8 at the University of Chicago. And I will continue on to New York City next week for my debut performance at Lincoln Center on April 11.
