This three-track guzheng piece was composed and recorded yesterday, performed by me. A month ago, I visited my dear friends in the ancient town of Ondarroa in the Basque Country in northern Spain. The road and the buildings (photo below) have been there for more than 1100 years. My friend’s mother Afra is 89 years old, a costume jewelry designer from Milano who married a Basque sportsman who was a pelota champion. During the entire Francois Spanish (1939 - 1975), this family was completely separated from their Basque root. Since their return to the homeland, Afra has lived a the same home with her husband who passed away years ago in the same home on this street. In the photo, Afra’s son (my friend) was walking her from the town center where we had pintxcos earlier (tapas in the Basque Country) back to her home. It is a steep road that Afra walks on everyday. No wonder Afra is in great shape. She is a treasure and loved by everyone in Ondarroa!
