This solo guzheng improvisation was recorded yesterday after a couple of days of stormy and steamy weather in Nashville. I had no power for a whole night because of the strong wind and rain on Friday. The city was extremely quiet and calm after the storm knocked out the power. I was surprised how many noises were in the house when the electricity was on all the time. When I sat down to record this piece, I recaptured the feeling I had surrounded by silence for many hours. As a modern human, I feel strange without so many noises around me. However, it was a comforting feeling when everything stopped including the electronic clock. Time stopped. I felt liberated. Secretly, I wished the power wouldn’t come back on because how rare the silence was to me. There was no expectation from life even if it was for a short period of time. I could think without expectation. It was luxury. Hope this piece brings you a moment of peace.
When you read this newsletter, I will have started a summer trip with my husband and our children to Spain and France to visit friends and family members for the next ten days or so. Although I won’t have stable internet, I hope to continue my music journey via my phone to stay connected to you in someway. Substack phone app doesn’t seem to have the function to post podcast. I will be posting on Notes and my Instagram (@wufeimusic) if you are on there too. My daily music post will resume on July 16th. Thank you for your understanding and support! Wish you all a wonderful summer and a fun July 4th if you are in the U.S..
