#751 — Clouds of perfume 香水云

This piece was created and recorded yesterday. I plucked the strings on both sides of the bridges on my guzheng. One side is tuned in multi-pentatonic scale, and the other side is in all microtones. The blend of the two scales gives an interesting tone color and timbre that is seldomly explored in the traditional way of composing and performing. I find it very satisfying to create music like that. AS usual, you can hear the birds at the end of the recording :)

During my daily hike yesterday, I saw the wild blue phlox, also known as woodland phlox, or wild sweet william, is a species of flowering plant in the family Polemoniaceae, native to forests and fields in eastern North America.

According to Wikipedia, Phlox is self-incompatible, so it requires cross-pollination to produce seed. Butterflies are the most effective pollinators. As they insert their proboscis into the flower to drink nectar, it contacts the anthers and picks up pollen. As they coil the proboscis before moving to the next flower, most of the pollen falls off, but some remains to be transferred to the stigma of the next flower that they drink nectar from.

Cultivated varieties have various colours, including blue ('Blue Moon'), lavender ('Clouds of Perfume', photo below) and white ('Fuller's White', 'White Perfume').
