This love song was recorded yesterday. This last weekend, we had a 3-year anniversary celebration for my parents moving to the U.S.. It has been an amazing three years for all of us, especially for my parents to move to a country they had never been. Yesterday, I realized that I had never seen them this peaceful around each other. They looked like a loving couple that I always hoped they could be when I was a child.
This folk love tune is from Midu mountain in Yunnan province, China. My mother spent six years of her youth living there during the Cultural Revolution. She was very unhappy there and she constantly dreamed of returning home to Beijing. Maybe those years were too painful for her to realize the beautiful things around her.
The folk melody in this piece is known as The Creek is Flowing from Midu. There are a lot of mountain songs from this area. Midu County is a county in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture located in western Yunnan Province, China. I hope to visit there one day.
