#579 — Sleepy galls 夏打盹儿

Good morning, afternoon or evening everyone. This solo guzheng improvisation piece was recorded yesterday. During my hike, I noticed these little bumps on a leaf (see photo blow) in the forest. I had to look them up on the internet and learned that they were gall wasp eggs. What a fun day to begin my day to discover something I had never heard of in my life!

According to Quogue Wildlife Refuge :

“As leaves begin to fall from their trees during the autumn season, you may find it easier to notice some very strange oddities growing in the forest. All types of bumps and growths may catch your eye, but what causes these curiosities may surprise you! Many of the growths you see in the forest are called galls, which are abnormal plant tissue that can be caused by the feeding or egg laying activities of insects like wasps!”

I came home and created this piece. Hope it brings you a moment of peace into your Monday.

I would also like to say thank you to all my subscribers, old and new. It has been an incredible and encouraging journey since I started my first episode on Substack on May 3, 2020. Connecting to you all through my music everyday is a special gift to myself as if we are growing up together, regardless where you are on this planet. Thanks to Substack for providing such an easy platform for creative individuals like me to share original work with the world, and to have financial support directly by their audience. It is like what the old Chinese idiom said “滴水穿石, constant dripping wears away a stone.” Thank you for being part of my water drop everyday!
