Good afternoon and morning,
I am back to alive from a week of strep throat torture! If you just got out of a sickness, let’s celebrate it. I recorded this three-track guzheng composition two hours ago. There wasn’t any particular inspiration except feeling good about not being sick again. You can hear my energy from this piece. I used a glass slide, a metal slide and a tuning fork to make a lot of sounds on the left side of the guzheng bridges (photo below). It was a lot of fun switching them around on the long strings. The different materials not only creat different timbers when pressing on the same strings, but also create different pitches and harmonics. It is very interesting to hear these sounds. If you are a string player and have similar gears, try them on your instruments. You may hear two scales crossing each other at the same time when you press the slide from one direction - one scale goes from low to high when the other scale (at the same time) goes the opposite direction. I am not sure why that is in physics. Will certainly look it up and share it with you.
Wish you all a restful and fun weekend!
