Happy Friday everyone,
I just composed and recorded this three-track guzheng étude in the tempo of 211 BPM (beats per minute). 211 beats per minute is considered crazy fast. It means I play 3.5 beats every second. In the recording, I played 4 notes per beat. Therefore, I played 14 notes per second.
Today, there was a lot of strong energy in me that I needed to take out of my head. I was also thinking about the new movie ‘Ne Zha 2 ’that came out in China and will be released in theaters all over the U.S. beginning today. Ne Zha (哪吒Nézhā) is a protection deity in Chinese Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Chinese folk religion. His official Taoist name is "Marshal of the Central Altar" (中壇元帥). He was given the title "Third Lotus Prince" (蓮花三太子) after he became a deity.
I have known this mythological character since I was a kid growing up in China. He flies and rides on a pair of wind-fire wheels 风火轮. The photo below shows the ceiling of Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto where I played a concert a few days ago. It looks like a giant wind-fire wheel to me.
Speaking of the concert in Toronto, I am utterly moved by the feedback (see photos below) from the audience. Behind every concert, record, tour and video, there is always a team of dedicated professionals who make enormous amount of prep work happen. I want to thank all of them. And yes, more new music, videos and projects are coming out this year!
Thank you for all your support. Hope this piece brings you strong energy!
