#1059 — My friend Shohret

Hi everyone,

I have returned home from London. Thank you for your patience while I was absent from my daily music newsletter. However, each trip I make, I always come back with full of new energy and inspiration. The concerts I gave at the British Library and SOAS University of London were both mesmerizing. I met a musician / composer name Shohret Nur (photo below). He is a master on the dutar and rawap who is from a highly respected musical family in kasghar, Xinjiang. I got to hear him play his beautiful dutar and played with him on stage at the British Library. I was carried away by his music and his new plucking techniques on the dutar. Though the dutar only has two strings, he makes it sound like an army of strings being played at the same time. I will share more of his incredible music in the future newsletters.

This solo guzheng improvisation was recorded yesterday inspired by Shohret’s music. Hope it brings you a lot of energy!
