Happy new year, everyone! 诸位新年好!
I hope you all had a restful holiday. My family and I have returned to our home in Nashville, Tennessee from New Zealand. It was a lovely trip to be with my family members there.
Nonetheless, it is good to be home. I have missed sharing my daily creation with you all! I am excited to kick off 2024 with this video I made while I was in Te Arai on my half-sized guzheng a few days ago. Te Arai is a beautiful area about one and a half hours drive north of Auckland.
The sun was too bright while I was filming the video, so I couldn’t keep my eyes open. However, I felt quite liberated playing without staring at the strings.
I wrote a poem to go along with this piece:
北岛艳阳,养心,闭目抚小琴。
手握半筝,赤甲,托梦陶渊明。
I am honored that my dear friend Geremie Barmé, a scholar and historian on China translated this poem to English. It is featured in his latest writing in the China Heritage. You can read it here .
