I recorded this video yesterday. It was my first time playing the valiha, a tube zither from Madagascar. The instrument is from my dear friends Tasha Rijke-Epstein and David Epstein.
The valiha is made from a species of bamboo and is considered the national instrument of Madagascar. Aside from recreational music, the valiha is also used for ritual music to summon spirits.
